Rheinmetall has received a major new order from the Dutch Ministry of Defence for mobile air defence systems, with the contract value in the triple-digit million euro range. Rheinmetall Air Defence will supply a two-digit number of Skyranger systems, with initial deliveries planned for the end of 2028 and final delivery before the end of 2029, while a large share of the value added will be generated in the Netherlands.

The Skyranger Weapon Platform combines the Skyranger 30 air defence turret with a lower mount that allows either mobile use on an armoured combat support vehicle or stationary operation from the ground. The order also includes tactical-level control nodes, hooklift transport platforms for stationary deployment, integration into the existing Dutch air defence architecture, classroom simulators and a comprehensive integrated logistics support package.

Designed as a modular hybrid solution, the Skyranger 30 balances mobility, protection, flexibility and precision for close and very close range threats. Its turret houses a 30 mm x 173 KCE revolver cannon, sensors including a tracking radar, provisions for future surface-to-air guided missiles, and airburst ammunition with a programmable detonation point that is particularly effective against drones.

“We are grateful for the Dutch armed forces’ confidence in our capabilities,” said Oliver Dürr, Managing Director of Rheinmetall Air Defence. “This latest order consolidates Rheinmetall’s position as the global market leader in the field of gun-based air defence.”
