The Desert Sting 16 is a lightweight and cost-effective precision-guided weapon. EDGE said it is designed to give UAV operators an accurate strike capability against a wide range of targets while preserving platform endurance and mission flexibility.
The successful integration onto the Bayraktar TB2 demonstrates compatibility between EDGE’s smart weapons portfolio and Baykar’s mission-proven unmanned systems. The company said the combination enables precise air-to-ground engagement from a versatile UAV platform.
Developed by HALCON, EDGE’s smart weapons producer, the Desert Sting 16 combines GNSS-assisted inertial navigation with semi-active laser guidance. EDGE said this provides high-precision engagement capability in complex operational environments.
The weapon’s compact form and low weight allow UAVs such as the TB2 to carry multiple munitions. EDGE said this supports operational efficiency and extended time on station.
The Desert Sting 16 also provides a wide off-axis engagement envelope. EDGE said its cross-range and back-range capability enables more flexible release geometries and supports improved launch-platform survivability in contested environments.
The integration forms part of EDGE’s broader collaboration with Baykar to expand payload interoperability across unmanned platforms. EDGE said the cooperation is intended to give armed forces greater mission flexibility, precision-strike capability and scalable air-to-ground engagement options.
The company said the Desert Sting 16 combines advanced guidance, compact design and platform versatility. EDGE said these attributes reinforce its position as a provider of integrated precision-strike solutions for modern aerial operations.
