Embraer expands industrial and research collaboration with the Netherlands

By Defence Industry Europe

Embraer has announced new industrial and research partnerships in the Netherlands following the country’s acquisition of the C-390 Millennium multi-mission transport aircraft. This collaboration aligns with the Netherlands’ Defence Technology and Industrial Base (NLDTIB) policy, aimed at fostering technological development and strengthening the country’s industrial capabilities.

As part of this initiative, Embraer has selected Fokker Services Group to provide an extended modification package for the C-390 aircraft. This package includes engineering, certification, and modification services to prepare the aircraft for NATO Special Operations missions. The enhancements will enable the C-390 to perform a variety of military and humanitarian operations, increasing its flexibility and utility for the Netherlands.

In addition to the modifications, Embraer has partnered with the Royal Netherlands Aerospace Centre (Royal NLR) to develop new aircraft maintenance technologies. Multisim, working in collaboration with Rheinmetall, will contribute advanced virtual training solutions. Dutch suppliers will also provide components for the C-390 Millennium’s full-flight mission simulator, supporting the aircraft’s operational readiness.

“Our collaboration with the Dutch Armed Forces, defence industry, and research organisations is an integral part of Embraer’s vision which aims to build fruitful relationships with quality partners,” said Bosco Da Costa Junior, President & CEO of Embraer Defense & Security. “Our commitment for a strong momentum in such collaboration here in the Netherlands supports our strategy of continuously investing in the most modern technologies, allowing us to deliver our customers the most efficient aircraft on the market.”

The collaboration has been praised by the Dutch government as a positive step in strengthening local industry. “The Dutch Industrial Participation Policy supports and strengthens the Netherlands’ Defence Technology Industrial Base by fostering knowledge, technology, and industrial capacity,” said Jan Christiaan Dicke, Commissioner Military Production at the Dutch Ministry of Economic Affairs. “The collaboration between the Dutch industry and Embraer under the acquisition of the C-390 Millennium military transport aircraft is fundamental for both the Dutch companies and the Brazilian OEM. I look forward to seeing further developments and projects in the coming years.”
