Fincantieri has officially delivered the multi-purpose combat ship KRI BRAWIJAYA-320 to the Indonesian Navy, marking a significant advancement in Italy–Indonesia defence cooperation. The delivery ceremony took place on 2 July at Fincantieri’s Muggiano shipyard in La Spezia.

The event was attended by senior officials including Biagio Mazzotta, Chairman of Fincantieri, Admiral Muhammad Ali, Chief of the Indonesian Navy, and H.E. Prof. Dr. Junimart Girsang, Indonesia’s Ambassador to Italy. Also present were Admiral Enrico Credendino, Chief of the Italian Navy, and Admiral Giacinto Ottaviani, Italy’s National Armaments Director, highlighting the importance of bilateral collaboration.

KRI BRAWIJAYA-320 is the first of two Multipurpose Combat Ships (MPCS), also known as Pattugliatore Polivalente d’Altura (PPA), built for Indonesia by Fincantieri. The second unit, KRI PRABU SILIWANGI-321, is currently under construction and will complete the pair of advanced vessels destined to enhance Indonesia’s maritime security.

“This ship was built and delivered in a very short time thanks also to the new construction synergies implemented by the Group,” stated Fincantieri. The new vessels will become the largest combat ships in the Indonesian Navy, bolstering its operational capacity in the Indo-Pacific.

Measuring 143 metres in length, the ship is capable of reaching speeds of over 31 knots and accommodates a crew of 171 personnel. It features a combined diesel and gas turbine propulsion system (CODAG) along with an electric propulsion system.

The MPCS/PPA class is designed to undertake a broad range of missions including combat operations, maritime patrol, search and rescue, and civil protection. The vessel can also deploy high-speed boats such as RHIBs using a lateral crane or a stern ramp, enhancing its operational flexibility.

Fincantieri described the project as “an important milestone in the development of the strategic partnership between Fincantieri and the Indonesian Ministry of Defense.”
