The Netherlands will investigate the possibility of producing American air defence munitions domestically next year, following approval from the U.S. government for a feasibility study. The study will examine how Dutch industry can contribute to the production, assembly, and maintenance of AIM-120 Advanced Medium-Range Air-to-Air Missiles (AMRAAM).

Finland’s Minister of Defence Antti Häkkänen has authorised the Finnish Defence Forces to procure AIM-120D-3 Advanced Medium Range Air-to-Air Missiles from the United States. The missiles will be compatible with the F-35A multi-role combat aircraft and will supplement the armament of Finland’s future F-35 fleet.

The D-3 version is the latest and most advanced variant of the AMRAAM missile, with deliveries supporting the deployment of the F-35 fleet following approval by the United States Congress in September 2025. Minister Häkkänen said, “This procurement will give Finland the latest and most advanced variant of AMRAAM, which will improve our ability to respond to threats in our operating environment,” adding that it “will further strengthen our interoperability with the United States and our other allies.”

The procurement includes missiles, documentation, spare parts, transport, and training, repair and support services provided by the manufacturer and supplier under a Letter of Offer and Acceptance, as well as services from the US administration. While AMRAAM missiles are currently used by Finland’s F/A-18 Hornet fleet and by the Army’s NASAMS air defence system, the D-3 variant will be used exclusively by the F-35 fleet.
