VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland and Millog Oy have signed a cooperation agreement aimed at promoting innovation in the defence sector. The agreement was signed on 7 November by Kalle Härkki, President and CEO of VTT, and Janne Tarvainen, CEO of Millog.

The collaboration enables stronger development of defence capabilities and harnesses a scalable network of civilian suppliers to support societal operations in various situations. The agreement also commits both organisations to advancing research, development and innovation (RDI) in the defence sector both in Finland and internationally.

Changes in the security environment have increased the need for close cooperation between security-critical actors in society. VTT and Millog aim to develop solutions that help maintain and reinforce national security by drawing on existing technologies, new innovations and dual-use applications.

Both organisations are active in multiple national and international defence networks and ecosystems. The agreement will support innovation efforts within these collaborative structures and expand their effectiveness.

“VTT’s multidisciplinary research and development expertise, research environments, innovation activities, and extensive cooperation networks help companies develop more competitive products, and we are also refining more and more innovations for use in the defence sector. Together, we will strengthen national performance and further intensify cooperation across the entire industry,” says Härkki.

“We have identified the need to support the agile development and adoption of new technologies and innovations. The agreement confirms our goal by combining VTT’s technological expertise and extensive research community with Millog’s defence material expertise and industrial networks,” Tarvainen says.
