Finnish company Insta unveils advanced Steel Eagle ER drone solution [VIDEO]

By Defence Industry Europe

Finnish defence technology company Insta has introduced a new version of its drone-based explosive charge system, the Insta Steel Eagle ER (Extended Range). Developed in collaboration with an international partner, this latest innovation enhances both performance and affordability in the defence technology market.

The Insta Steel Eagle ER integrates a drone with a patented explosive charge, offering improved range and payload capacity. Compared to its predecessor, it delivers a more capable and cost-effective solution for modern warfare applications.

Tuure Lehtoranta, Vice President of Sales and Customers, Defence at Insta, highlighted the collaborative effort behind the development. The drone, which provides extended operational reach and higher carrying capacity, was supplied by a Ukrainian partner specialising in the drone ecosystem.

The system allows for precise air delivery of explosive charges, effectively striking designated targets from above. The charge, equipped with steel or tungsten balls, disperses over a targeted area, releasing more than 3,000 fragments across approximately 2,000 square metres.

Designed to withstand modern electronic warfare conditions, the Insta Steel Eagle ER ensures resilience against signal interference. This makes it a highly effective tool for contemporary battlefield environments, where electronic countermeasures are increasingly prevalent.

The evolving security landscape has driven Insta’s focus on rapid development and international cooperation. By leveraging agile product development, the company aims to extend its expertise beyond Finland, with marketing licences already in progress for European and NATO markets.

Insta has extensive experience in cyber security, software development, and defence technology, positioning it as a leading innovator in the global defence sector. Its patented Insta Safe EOD™ drone system, designed for safe mine and explosive ordnance disposal, exemplifies the company’s commitment to enhancing security solutions through advanced technology.

The new Insta Steel Eagle ER and other cutting-edge solutions, including the Insta SafeLink Secret encryption device, will be showcased at the SecD-Day event in Helsinki on 29–30 January. The event serves as a platform for discussing Finland’s comprehensive security landscape and the latest advancements in defence technology.
