According to DGA, the new order includes 1,300 Akeron MP and 329 Mistral 3 missiles. The first batch of 200 Akeron MP anti-tank missiles will be delivered to the French Armed Forces in 2025, DGA said.
The order for 329 Mistral 3 air defence missiles was placed as part of the multinational letter of intent signed by France, Belgium, Cyprus, Estonia, and Hungary in June 2023.
According to MBDA, Akeron MP is the only 5th generation missile in service that is combat-proven in the world. It has been operationally tested and proven in extreme climates (desert and sub-arctic conditions). The system’s design includes the growth potential necessary for future modern land combat systems. Weighing in at 15 kilograms, the anti-tank missile boasts an impressive range exceeding 4,000 meters, as indicated on the company’s official website.
Mistral 3, with a range of up to 8 km, is the latest version of a long success story that began in the early ’90s, perfectly adapted to today’s and future threats. Mistral 3 is a fire-and-forget missile, guaranteeing the same level of outstanding performance. Unlike beam-riding systems, the Mistral’s terminal accuracy on maneuvering targets is not dependent on the operator’s skills and hence doesn’t need intensive and permanent training, whatever the gunner and the launcher, MBDA said.
