Federation of Security and Defence Industries of Latvia joins ASD, expanding European cooperation

By Defence Industry Europe

The Aerospace, Security and Defence Industries Association of Europe (ASD) has confirmed the Federation of Security and Defence Industries of Latvia (FSDI Latvia) as its newest national association member. This move strengthens ASD’s presence across Europe and brings new regional insight into the association’s growing network.

FSDI Latvia plays a key role in coordinating Latvia’s defence industrial and scientific efforts, both domestically and on the international stage. The organisation contributes actively to the NATO Industry Advisory Group, the European Defence Agency, and collaborates with the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Defence Industry and Space (DEFIS).

ASD Secretary General Jan Pie welcomed the decision, stating: “Latvia is an increasingly important player in Europe’s security and defence environment. The inclusion of FSDI Latvia strengthens not only our geographic reach but also our collective industrial intelligence.”

FSDI Latvia also maintains bilateral relations with peer organisations across Europe and beyond, encouraging innovation and cross-border cooperation. Chairperson Elina Egle commented: “The security and defence of the European Union is the responsibility of its member states and every citizen. I believe that security is a verb.”

Founded in 2013, FSDI Latvia has consistently supported the national industry by uniting and representing key stakeholders. Egle added: “ASD unites doers – industry and national defence industry associations. Geopolitical reality encourages industry leaders to work together, because only in this way can we face new global challenges.”

Jan Pie further noted: “Our strength as an association lies in our diversity and unity of purpose. FSDI Latvia’s engagement brings valuable insight from a region at the forefront of European security.”

With the addition of FSDI Latvia, ASD now represents over 4,000 companies across Europe. The expanded membership ensures that the association’s collective voice remains strong, inclusive, and responsive to the evolving industrial and geopolitical environment.
