The order follows the delivery of a pre-series batch to the Finnish Army in 2025. Patria developed TREMOS in cooperation with the Army and the Finnish Defence Forces Logistics Command.
TREMOS converts a traditional heavy mortar into a mobile weapon system that can be integrated with a wide range of vehicles. Its recoil technology is designed to improve mobility, firepower and accuracy without tying the system to a single platform.
The system can use mortar barrels and breeches already held in military inventories. It is also compatible with existing ammunition and ballistic tables, reducing the need for separate training, operational and logistics arrangements.
“Patria TREMOS is a unique and innovative mortar concept developed to meet the mobility requirements of modern warfare,” said Mikko Leino, executive vice-president of Patria’s Defence and Weapon Systems business. “We expect strong international market potential for the system and are proud to have reached this milestone together with the Finnish Defence Forces, whose collaboration has been excellent throughout the development process.”
“Having Finland as the launch customer is an important milestone for our weapon system business and creates a strong basis for future success,” Leino added. The domestic order gives Patria a launch customer as it seeks international sales for the system.
Production will take place at Patria facilities in Finland and involve a network of dozens of suppliers. The work is expected to generate around 130 person-years of employment.
Patria said Finnish development and manufacturing would support national security of supply. The order is also intended to ensure domestic access to an important indirect-fire capability.
