General Dynamics Information Technology has been awarded a $988 million contract to modernise command, control, communications, computers, combat, intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance systems across the U.S. Navy fleet. The Ship and Air C5ISR Systems Support contract was awarded in December and includes a one-year base period, four one-year options and a six-month option.

Under the agreement, GDIT will modernise and integrate C5ISR systems to improve the operational effectiveness and readiness of naval forces. The work covers integration, engineering, procurement, logistics and installation across surface combatants, guided missile ships, aircraft carriers, Coast Guard vessels, manned and unmanned aircraft and shore-based facilities.

“C5ISR systems are foundational to how our Navy senses, communicates and fights in the modern battlespace,” said Brian Sheridan, senior vice president for defence at GDIT. “We look forward to continuing to deliver innovative solutions to ensure these vital systems operate at peak performance and enable our warfighters to stay ahead of emerging threats.”

The company said the upgrades will help the Navy keep existing vessels operational while ensuring mission continuity. GDIT, a business unit of General Dynamics, said it draws on decades of experience supporting the Navy, including electronic warfare development, large-scale training programmes and the delivery of artificial intelligence and machine learning solutions.
