German Defence Minister Boris Pistorius has announced a new military equipment package worth EUR 500 million to support Ukraine. The announcement was made during a meeting with his Ukrainian counterpart, Rustem Umerov, in Odesa.

The latest aid package includes a substantial number of medium-range IRIS-T SLM air defence missiles and a smaller quantity of short-range IRIS-TSLS missiles. Additionally, maritime drones for reconnaissance and strike operations in the Black Sea will be provided, along with urgently needed spare parts such as replacement barrels for the PzH2000 artillery systems and spare engines for Leopard 2 main battle tanks, all supplied by Germany.

Notably, three days ago, the defence conglomerate Rheinmetall announced that an undisclosed European client had ordered a three-digit number of barrels for PzH2000 artillery guns, scheduled for delivery between 2024 and 2029.

During his visit, Minister Pistorius also declared that Germany will allocate €19 million for the refurbishment and modernization of 19 Spanish Leopard 2A4 tanks, which are set to be delivered to Ukraine this year.

Furthermore, Germany has committed to supplying Ukraine with one million rounds of small arms ammunition, additional Marder infantry fighting vehicles, Gepard anti-aircraft tanks, and resilient satellite communication systems.
