Germany buys Panzerhaubitze 2000 to replace equipment sent to Ukraine

By Defence Industry Europe

On March 29, the German Parliament approved the plan of the Federal Ministry of Defence to order ten Panzerhaubitze 2000 artillery systems with an option for further eighteen howitzers from the Bavarian manufacturer of heavy military equipment Krauss-Maffei Wegmann (KMW).

According to KMW, the contract for the production of a batch of ten Paznerhaubitze 2000 has already been signed.

The total purchase cost of ten Panzerhabutize 2000 is 25 million euros. The howitzers will be delivered to German Armed Forces in 2025-2026.

However, this is not the end of the purchase of artillery systems for the German Armed Forces. The contract includes an option for additional eighteen artillery systems.

In addition, the German Ministry of Defence intends to spend 184 million euros on a total of sixty 155mm artillery systems (including the ordered Panzerhubitze 2000s).

In June and September 2022, Germany donated to Ukraine fourteen Panzerhaubitze 2000 guns, which created a gap in the Bundeswehr’s artillery equipment.
