Germany procures simulator for P-8A Poseidon aircraft

By Defence Industry Europe

The German Navy is set to receive a simulator for the P-8A Poseidon maritime surveillance and anti-submarine warfare aircraft, thanks to funding from the special budget. The President of the Federal Office of Bundeswehr Equipment, Information Technology, and In-Service Support (BAAINBw) signed a corresponding contract on May 25.

The P-8A Poseidon simulator will be procured under the Foreign Military Sales (FMS) programme, BAAINBw said in a statement.

The simulator will enable the entire aircrew to train in various mission tactics and conduct training and proficiency exercises. This state-of-the-art simulator will enhance the capabilities of the naval aviators in maritime surveillance and anti-submarine warfare, eliminating the need for costly flight hours. Alongside the simulator, additional training equipment, required software, and necessary support services will also be procured.

According to BAAINBW, the  P-8A Poseidon simulator is scheduled to be available to the Marinefliegergeschwader 3 “Graf Zeppelin” in Nordholz by the year 2027. The procurement value of the project amounts to approximately 180 million euros.
