L3Harris Technologies and Air Tractor have delivered the first OA-1K Skyraider II aircraft to support the U.S. Air Force Special Operations Command. The aircraft is designed to assist special operations forces (SOF) in fulfilling the U.S. National Defense Strategy through a wide range of mission capabilities.

The Skyraider II will be used for close air support, precision strikes, and armed intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance operations. Its design allows it to operate in challenging conditions, including from rugged and remote airfields.

The aircraft’s flexibility will help SOF respond to a variety of threats across the full spectrum of armed conflict. L3Harris says this capability ensures relevance for current and future operational needs.

“The Skyraider II reflects L3Harris’ commitment to delivering cost-effective, adaptable solutions that meet the evolving needs of the warfighter,” said Jon Rambeau, President of Integrated Mission Systems at L3Harris. “By leveraging our team’s innovation and expertise, we are providing special operations personnel with a versatile, mission-ready capability that supports operational requirements today and into the future.”

Air Tractor, the manufacturer partnering with L3Harris on the project, also welcomed the milestone. “Air Tractor is thrilled to be a part of this program,” said Jim Hirsch, President of Air Tractor, Inc. “We stand ready to meet the future needs and to ensure this airframe aligns with the expectations of U.S. Air Force Special Operations Command.”

L3Harris confirmed that it is on schedule to deliver additional Skyraider II aircraft. The platform is based on the OA-1 Sky Warden and is adaptable to meet a variety of mission requirements for both U.S. and allied forces.
