The Budget Committee of the German Bundestag has approved the decision to purchase MBDA Brimstone 3 guided missiles. These advanced missiles are set to be integrated into the armament of German Eurofighter combat aircraft.

The approved framework agreement envisages the acquisition of up to 3,266 Brimstone 3 missiles. However, the initial contract will cover only a batch of 274 missiles, costing approximately 376 million euros. This preliminary order will include both combat and training missiles, along with pylons for weapon suspension, auxiliary and diagnostic equipment, as well as toolkits and training materials. Deliveries are scheduled to commence in 2028.

Brimstone 3 represents the third generation of this weapon, designed to target precise land and naval objectives. Developed at the behest of the British Ministry of Defence, the new version aims to replace the Brimstone 2 missiles. The first test firings of the Brimstone 3 took place in March 2019 at a range in Sweden. Enhancements include a new engine, an improved autopilot, a battery with an extended lifespan providing an additional 30% operational time, and a new multifunctional warhead.
