Germany becomes the fifth nation to select the JSM, joining Norway, Japan, Australia and the United States. “We are pleased to welcome Germany as the fifth nation to select the JSM for its F-35 fleet,” said Eirik Lie, President of Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace.
The procurement will take place through a government-to-government agreement between Norway and Germany under the existing Naval Defence Material Cooperation framework. Norway’s Defence Material Agency (NDMA) will act as the contracting authority on behalf of the Norwegian government.
The German Bundestag approved the agreement on 4 June 2025, clearing the way for contract finalisation. Kongsberg confirmed during its Q1 reporting that negotiations are ongoing, with contract signing expected by the end of the first half of 2025.
“The JSM’s navigation system, flight profile and automatic target recognition technology make it a great match for the F-35,” Lie added. The missile is designed to enhance the operational capabilities of the fifth-generation fighter with long-range, precision strike performance.
