Germany will finance several tens of thousands of Quantum Systems interceptor drones for Ukraine under its military aid package for the winter of 2026/2027, the company said on 4 October. The drones will be built in Ukraine, increasing production of systems already being used to counter Russian drone attacks.

German Chancellor Friedrich Merz announced the financing during a visit to Kyiv, where he and Minister for Economic Affairs and Energy Katherina Reiche met Quantum Systems. The company briefed them on wartime production, training and operational support, alongside its plans to expand unmanned systems manufacturing in Ukraine.

The order addresses growing demand for protection against Russian attack drones, including faster, jet-powered systems. Quantum Systems said the changing threat requires interceptors that can be manufactured and deployed in much larger numbers.

The Ukrainian team at Quantum WIY Industries developed the drones to help protect cities, civilian facilities and critical infrastructure. The interceptors integrate into Quantum Systems’ MOSAIC UXS software suite.

Sven Kruck, co-chief executive of Quantum Systems, said: “Ukraine needs interceptor drones at industrial scale. By expanding production in Ukraine, we can respond faster to the immediate threat while building an industrial capability that will also strengthen Germany and its allies.”

The chief executive of Quantum WIY Industries said the programme would bring together Ukrainian engineering expertise and its partners’ production capabilities. “For QWI, this project is an opportunity to combine our engineering expertise with our partners’ industrial capabilities and scale production in Ukraine.”

“Our priority is to get more interceptors into the hands of Ukrainian defenders, faster. We will continue to improve our systems based on feedback from the units using them and build production capacity that can adapt quickly as threats evolve.”

The programme forms part of Quantum Systems’ German-Ukrainian production network, which includes Quantum Frontline Industries, Quantum WIY Industries and Quantum Tencore Industries. The company said this approach combines experience from the Ukrainian front line with German industrial capacity, supporting deliveries to Ukraine and building longer-term production capability for Germany and allied forces.

Quantum Systems also signed a memorandum of understanding with Fire Point at an industry round table attended by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Merz. The companies agreed to jointly develop technologies for unmanned systems and for countering advanced aerial threats.

Quantum Systems has expanded its permanent presence in Ukraine since 2022 and employs several hundred people in the country. It works closely with Ukrainian defence units to incorporate their operational experience into product development.

The German company develops and manufactures autonomous systems for defence, security and civil resilience customers, combining hardware, software and artificial intelligence. Its portfolio includes unmanned systems, sensors and technologies for countering unmanned systems across air, land, sea and related domains.

Its AI-enabled MOSAIC UXS mission combat system connects those capabilities into an interoperable operational network. Quantum Systems employs more than 1,700 people across eight countries.
