The tanks, costing 525.6 million euros, and the howitzers, priced at 190.7 million euros, are expected to be delivered by 2026, as stated in documents from the finance ministry for the parliament. Additionally, the purchase includes an option for another 105 tanks, totaling approximately 2.9 billion euros.
Since last year’s invasion, Germany has already supplied Ukraine with 18 Leopard 2A8 tanks and has expressed its commitment to promptly replace them. The acquisition of the 12 Panzerhaubitze 2000 howitzers aligns with the defense ministry’s plans, approved by the German parliament in March, to procure up to 28 howitzers as replacements.
Both the Leopard tanks and the howitzers are manufactured in partnership by KMW and Rheinmetall. The new purchase will help ensure Germany’s military readiness and maintain its defense capabilities.
