KNDS Deutschland details contract with Sweden for Leopard 2A8 main battle tanks

Sweden has finalised a significant agreement with German defence manufacturer KNDS Deutschland for the acquisition of 44 Leopard 2A8 main battle tanks.

Sweden has signed a major contract with German defence company KNDS Deutschland, the producer of Leopard 2A8 tanks, as part of a significant investment in its armed forces. The deal, valued at approximately €1.7 billion (20 billion SEK), includes the acquisition of 44 new Leopard 2 A8 tanks and the upgrade of 66 existing Stridsvagn 122 tanks. The new tanks will be designated Stridsvagn 123B, while the modernised versions will be called Stridsvagn 123A.

Under the auspices of the Italian Ministry of Defence, Leonardo and KNDS have signed an agreement for further development of a more intensive cooperation. The aim is to create a truly European Defence Group and, in addition, to cooperate more closely in the field of land based electronics.
