KNDS Germany has awarded Intracom Defense a contract to supply its WiSPRevo Communication and Information System for newly manufactured Leopard 2A8 main battle tanks. The vehicles equipped under the agreement are intended for customers in the international market.

The contract extends the long-standing relationship between the German armoured-vehicle manufacturer and the Greek defence company. It will expand the use of WiSPRevo on the latest Leopard 2 platform.

WiSPRevo provides digital communications and networking for armoured vehicles. Its Dynamic Noise Reduction technology is designed to improve the clarity of crew communications in the demanding acoustic environment inside a main battle tank.

The system reduces environmental noise while helping to protect crew members against hearing damage, according to Intracom Defense. It is also intended to improve operators’ situational awareness and complies with European Union Directive 2003/10/EC.

WiSPRevo uses an architecture designed to accommodate new tactical radios, command-and-control applications, sensors and computing technologies throughout its lifecycle. This allows communications subsystems and wider C4ISR capabilities to be adapted or upgraded as operational requirements change.

The award increases Intracom Defense’s participation in armoured-vehicle programmes for NATO customers. The company said WiSPRevo would support the continuing digital development of modern land platforms.
