Gravitics selected for up to USD 60 million in U.S. Space Force funding to develop orbital carrier technology

By Defence Industry Europe

Gravitics, a U.S.-based space technology firm, has been chosen by the United States Space Force to receive Strategic Funding Increase (STRATFI) support worth up to USD 60 million. The funding will enable the company to further develop and demonstrate its innovative Orbital Carrier system.

The Orbital Carrier is designed to pre-position agile space vehicles in orbit, allowing for rapid and flexible responses to emerging threats in space. This capability is set to transform the operational readiness of the U.S. Space Force by bypassing traditional launch limitations.

Colin Doughan, CEO of Gravitics, stated, “We’re honoured to partner with the U.S. Space Force on this critical initiative. The Orbital Carrier is a game-changer, acting as a pre-positioned launch pad in space.”

By using this system, space vehicle operators can choose deployment orbits on-demand, significantly reducing reaction time and enhancing mission agility. This move aligns with the Space Force’s growing emphasis on tactically responsive space operations.

The STRATFI initiative, managed by SpaceWERX, aims to accelerate the adoption of high-potential technologies developed by small businesses. Gravitics’ selection marks a major step towards integrating the Orbital Carrier into the Space Force’s future space infrastructure.

The company’s vision is now backed by a combination of government, Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR), and private funds. This support is expected to fast-track the platform’s readiness for operational deployment in the coming years.
