Handheld Group, a leading manufacturer of rugged mobile computers and part of MilDef Group, has won a contract for nano drone control computers to be used by dismounted soldiers.

The custom-built drone-control computer is based on a 7-inch ultra-rugged Handheld Android tablet. The customer is a global defensc group, based in the USA, delivering nano drones for battlefield surveillance. The initial contract is valued at SEK 6 million (USD 580,000) with substantial growth potential expected.

Drone technology has emerged as a game-changer in modern warfare, revolutionizing the way military operations are conducted. Drones–unmanned aerial vehicles–have significantly transformed the battlefield and enhanced military capabilities. Nano drones measure less than 15 centimeters across and are equipped with advanced sensors and cameras allowing them to operate in low-light and low-visibility conditions.

“This win is the first cross-selling deal since Handheld became part of MilDef and it showcases the synergies between the two companies. We’ve taken Handheld’s custom device development skills together with MilDef’s military expertise to provide a customized solution for our client’s unique requirements,” says Fredrik Jacobsson, CEO Handheld Group. “Handheld’s rugged Android tablets are powerful, compact, and will revolutionize the field operations for dismounted soldiers.”
