Sensor solutions provider Hensoldt has launched its Spexer radar family as a naval solution, securing an initial contract with the navy of a NATO country. The system is designed for the detection and defence against drones at sea, while also scanning for anti-ship missiles and submarine periscopes.

The Spexer radar family includes high-performance surveillance radars for different ranges, providing automatic detection and classification of ground, sea and low-flying air targets. The Spexer 2000 is integrated in Rheinmetall Air Defence’s Skyranger 30 system and used in German counter-drone programmes including ASUL, HoWiSM and the NNbS close and short-range air defence system.

Hensoldt highlights its long-standing expertise with naval radar systems and ongoing development of key technologies in this field. Radars from its TRS-4D product family are already in operation on ships of NATO partners.

“We can use software to expand the functionality of our products so that they can be used in various scenarios,” says Markus Rothmaier, Head of Naval & Ground Radars at Hensoldt. “With our capabilities in motion, we are predestined for maritime applications. Therefore, the use of the Spexer radar at sea is another logical step on our path to equipping maritime units.”
