The HTCDF initiative will see the MoD invest £1 billion (approximately AUD 1.9 billion) over the next seven years. This substantial investment will be utilized to source services, technologies, and testing capabilities from over 90 accredited suppliers, including Hypersonix Launch Systems. The initiative underscores the UK’s commitment to enhancing its hypersonic defence capabilities through innovative technological advancements.
The UK contract follows closely on the heels of Hypersonix’s significant achievement in securing the HyCAT program from the United States Defence Innovation Unit (DIU) last year. The HyCAT program involves the development and flight testing of Hypersonix’s DART hypersonic test bed, a cutting-edge 3.5-meter hydrogen-fueled Mach 7 aircraft. The DART, powered by a single air-breathing SPARTAN scramjet engine, is slated for its inaugural flight under the HyCAT program in early 2025.
Hypersonix CEO, Mr. Matt Hill, expressed his elation over the new contract, stating, “We are incredibly proud to now have the opportunity to contribute our world-leading hypersonic technology to two AUKUS nation defence programs.”
The HTCDF initiative marks a significant milestone for Hypersonix Launch Systems, positioning the company at the forefront of global hypersonic technology development. The dual engagement in both the UK and US defence programs reflects Hypersonix’s growing reputation as a leader in hypersonic propulsion and aircraft design.
As part of the HTCDF framework, Hypersonix will collaborate with the MoD and other leading companies to advance the UK’s hypersonic capabilities, ensuring the country remains at the cutting edge of defence technology.
