Following the launch, the satellite completed initial procedures and positive diagnostic indications have been received. In the coming weeks, IAI engineers will carry out a series of in-orbit tests to confirm the satellite’s full operational functionality.
Boaz Levy, CEO and President of IAI, stated: “As Israel’s space house, we at IAI are extremely proud of the development and successful launch into space of the State of Israel’s ‘Dror 1’ national communications satellite.” He added: “Dror 1 is the most advanced communications satellite ever built in Israel, designed to preserve this national strategic capability in the country while providing Israel with essential satellite communications capabilities for years to come.”
The satellite is set to provide long-term communication services for the State of Israel and is equipped with advanced and flexible capabilities. Operating at an altitude of approximately 36,000 kilometres, “Dror 1” is among the most advanced communications satellites globally.
Levy emphasised IAI’s longstanding contribution to Israel’s space achievements: “Israel’s space program has evolved from vision to reality thanks to the creativity and innovation of IAI’s employees, who have developed complex and groundbreaking technologies over the years.” He also noted that the satellite joins IAI’s existing network of communication and observation satellites serving both national and international needs.
IAI has led Israel’s national space programme since the 1980s, beginning with the launch of its first observation satellite, Ofek 1. The company has since developed and operated numerous satellites for scientific, civil, and national missions both domestically and internationally.
