Under the contract’s Active Sensors category, ICEYE US will provide imagery covering land, coastal and ocean conditions. Its SAR satellites can collect data through cloud cover and darkness, giving NOAA an additional source of observations when weather or nighttime conditions limit optical visibility.
The imagery can support flood and inundation monitoring, sea ice tracking, marine surveillance, disaster management and resource mapping. ICEYE US said the capability can also provide data during hurricanes, floods and other fast-moving events when adverse conditions restrict optical imaging.
ICEYE US operates as part of what the company describes as the world’s largest SAR satellite constellation. The constellation supports more frequent revisits over individual locations, with imagery available within hours of order acceptance rather than days.
SAR also provides day-and-night imaging through cloud cover, helping fill observation gaps left by optical satellites during storms or overnight events. ICEYE US said those characteristics align directly with NOAA applications in which the speed and reliability of data can affect how quickly responders act.

The NOAA selection adds to ICEYE US’s work with other U.S. government agencies using commercial SAR data. In August 2026, the National Reconnaissance Office selected ICEYE US for its operational Radar Commercial Augmentation program following a multi-year evaluation of commercial SAR capabilities.
ICEYE US also provides commercial SAR data through NASA’s Commercial Satellite Data Acquisition program for Earth science and research. The company said the combined selections reflect increasing use of commercial SAR across U.S. government environmental and national security missions.
