The funding will support the creation of the Indra Technology Hub in Torrejón de Ardoz, located in the Madrid region. This new integrated centre will host advanced laboratories and manufacturing technologies focused on radar, electronic defence, electro-optics, communications, and digital systems.
The financing agreement was signed at EIB headquarters in Luxembourg in the presence of EIB President Nadia Calviño, EIB Vice-President Robert de Groot, and Indra Chairman Ángel Escribano. “Today we are signing a strategic agreement with Indra to boost research and development of cutting-edge technologies,” said Calviño, highlighting the importance of investing in innovation to strengthen Europe’s security.
De Groot emphasised the project’s strategic relevance within the broader European context. “By backing Indra’s innovation and supporting the creation of its Technology Hub, we are helping Europe stay ahead of the curve in technology, in resilience and in its ability to act with greater autonomy in a fast-changing world,” he said.
Indra expects the project to reinforce its role in the European defence and aerospace sectors while accelerating its strategic objectives. “The EIB’s financing will boost our industrial and technological development supporting our ‘Leading the Future’ strategic plan and our vision of becoming a key player in Europe’s security, defence and aerospace sectors,” said Chairman Escribano.
The initiative also forms part of the EIB’s broader commitment to enhancing European security through its TechEU initiative and Strategic Roadmap. The project will contribute to the resilience of Europe’s defence supply chain and the digital transformation of its technological base.
Since 2024, the EIB Group, which includes the European Investment Fund, has made European security and defence a permanent cross-cutting policy priority. It has broadened its lending policy, established a Security and Defence Office, and plans to allocate 3.5% of its total 2025 financing – approximately €3.5 billion – to related projects.
With a robust pipeline of 80 projects in collaboration with institutions such as the European Commission, the European Defence Agency and NATO, the EIB Group continues to play a critical role in supporting Europe’s strategic autonomy.
