Indra signs contract to supply long-range 3D radars to the Royal Air Force of Oman

The Royal Air Force of Oman (RAFO) will be equipped with new long-range Lanza 3D early warning radars under a recently signed contract with Spanish technology company Indra. The agreement was formalised at Indra’s headquarters by H.E. Dr. Mohamed Bin Nasser Al-Zaabi, Secretary General of Oman’s Ministry of Defence, and Ángel Escribano, Chairman of Indra Group.

The contract includes the design, delivery and installation of fixed-site Lanza 3D-LRR radars, along with radio voice communication systems. It also covers integration with the existing command and control infrastructure previously delivered by Indra.

As part of the project, the Royal Air Force of Oman will enhance its internal capability to perform third-level radar maintenance. This reinforces the operational independence and long-term sustainability of its air surveillance network.

These new systems will complement Indra’s existing deployment of the Lanza radar-based air defence system in Oman, which was completed in 2020. The company states this project “will reinforce Indra’s deployment of the comprehensive Lanza radar-based air defence system in Oman”.

Oman’s decision to expand its partnership with Indra reflects continued confidence in the company’s technological expertise. “Oman’s renewed confidence in Indra is an acknowledgment of its state-of-the-art technology and its undertaking to offer the very best response to its customers’ needs,” Indra stated.

The agreement also supports Indra’s strategic goal of deepening its presence in the Middle East defence market. The company has operated in Oman since 2010 and maintains a local subsidiary with a team of 30 professionals.
