Indra consolidates its position on European defence industry market

Indra consolidates and strengthens its position as one of the largest European defence companies and a driving force in the sector, after the European Commission selected the 19 R&D projects in which Indra is participating. The company is leading one of the most futuristic, set to revolutionize cyberdefence.

The company is now one of the three European companies involved in the largest number of projects under the new EU Defence Fund (EDF). It has ensured its participation in initiatives that will mobilize more than 700 million euros, equivalent to 60% of the 1.2 billion committed in this first call for proposals, thus confirming its role as the backbone of the industry in Europe, leading Spain’s participation in this field.

Indra is present in no less than 13 out of the 15 categories of the call, having achieved all the key proposals aligned with its business strategy, as well as the leadership of the project that is set to transform cyberdefence through the application of artificial intelligence.

“The resounding success achieved by Indra in this call is the result of its hard work, the talent of our professionals and the strong support of the Ministry of Defence and Spanish institutions,” said Ignacio Mataix, Indra’s CEO. “The company is once again demonstrating its technological leadership in all defence domains and the increasingly critical role that digitalisation plays in the evolution of the industry.”

Disruption and digitalisation

Indra’s leadership is on full display in its role as coordinator in the EU-GUARDIAN project that will transform cyberdefence by applying artificial intelligence to detect and respond to cyberattacks. Other key projects for the company will be MDOC, which will address the development of combat clouds for multi-domain operations, and ARTURO, for the evolution of the next generation of radars that will respond to new threats.

It will also play a key role in all initiatives related to air combat, through three projects (EPIIC, R-NGRT and EICACS) largely aligned with the technologies currently under development within the FCAS program, the largest and most advanced defence program launched in Europe, for which Indra is the Spanish industrial coordinator.

As for ground operations, Indra will multiply the capabilities of the new generation of armored vehicles within the FAMOUS-2 consortium, provide key systems for unmanned vehicles in the COMMANDS project and, with ACHILE, will help equip soldiers with new sensors that enhance their capabilities.

Indra will also participate in the development of the ships of the future, through the EDINAF project, as well as in a long list of projects for space surveillance, security and resilience of satellite communications, application of quantum technologies and energy efficiency and independence projects, among others.

New strategic drive

All these projects reinforce the company’s strategy and are in addition to the approximately twenty initiatives from previous European Union defence programs in which it is participating, maintaining its position as the Spanish company that coordinates the most projects in the Europe of Defence.

Notably, it is also a leader in four of the most important of these initiatives: those related to strategic command and control (ESC2), cyberdefence (ECYSAP) and the development of the electronic defence systems of the future (CROWN and REACT).

Indra is one of the top global engineering technology companies serving the Defence industry and a leader in the digitalisation of the industry. Its state-of-the-art solutions for Land, Sea and Air, Space and Cyberspace range from operations with end-to-end defence systems and systems on board the most advanced platforms to training with cutting-edge simulation systems. As an expert in radar, electronic defence, command and control and communication technologies, Indra incorporates artificial intelligence, big data, virtual reality and combat clouds in its cutting-edge critical systems.
