By Defence Industry Europe

International Armored Group (IAG), a leading manufacturer of armoured vehicles, has officially opened a new production facility in Burgas, Bulgaria. This strategic expansion aims to strengthen IAG's global manufacturing capabilities and provide advanced defence solutions to meet NATO standards.

Located in the Burgas industrial zone, the new plant spans an area of 150,000 square metres. The project represents an investment exceeding BGN 20 million (€10.2 million) and is expected to create over 300 jobs in the region. The facility’s primary focus will be on producing more than 150 types of armoured vehicles and drones for use in rescue, intelligence, and emergency operations.

The Burgas plant will adhere to strict NATO standards, ensuring the production of high-quality equipment that meets the alliance’s requirements. All products manufactured at the facility will be made available to both local and international markets, further enhancing IAG’s presence in the global defence industry.

Speaking at the inauguration, Anton Stefov, owner of IAG, expressed his pride in the swift development of the plant, which was completed ahead of schedule in just one year. Despite initial scepticism from some quarters, Stefov remained committed to investing in Bulgaria, highlighting the strategic importance of the country’s location and capabilities.

“This is the beginning of a production process that will create different types of combat vehicles for infantry, army, police, and fire brigades, all meeting the highest NATO standards,” Stefov said. The facility will produce equipment to NATO’s STANAG (Standardization Agreement) levels 1, 2, 3, and 4, ensuring compatibility with the alliance’s rigorous operational requirements.

The new facility in Bulgaria adds to IAG’s existing manufacturing operations in the United States, the United Arab Emirates, and Turkey. This expansion is part of the company’s broader strategy to diversify its production capabilities and increase its footprint in the global defence market. By establishing a production base in Europe, IAG aims to streamline its supply chain and respond more effectively to the needs of its customers worldwide.
