ITP Aero secures key role in supplying 59 EJ200 engines for Spanish Air Force

By Defence Industry Europe

Spanish aerospace propulsion leader ITP Aero has cemented its role in national defence with a pivotal contract to deliver 59 EJ200 engines to the Spanish Air Force. The agreement, part of the Halcón project, was signed between EUROJET Turbo GmbH (EUROJET) and the NATO Eurofighter & Tornado Management Agency (NETMA), aiming to bolster the Eurofighter Typhoon fleet’s capabilities.

The deal, formalised at the Getafe Air Force Base in Madrid, represents a major milestone in Spain’s air defence strategy. It also underscores the robust collaboration between the EUROJET consortium’s partners – Rolls-Royce, MTU Aero Engines, Avio Aero, and ITP Aero – in producing cutting-edge propulsion systems.

ITP Aero will manage the final assembly of the engines at its Ajavir facility in Madrid, with initial deliveries set for 2029. This ensures that the EJ200 assembly lines will remain active until at least 2034, offering continuity and growth for ITP Aero’s operations in Spain.

The company plays a comprehensive role in the EJ200 engine programme, encompassing design, manufacture, assembly, and testing, alongside ongoing Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) services. As the primary MRO supplier for Spain’s Air and Space Force, ITP Aero provides bespoke solutions to ensure the fleet’s optimal performance.

Carlos Alzola, Managing Director of ITP Aero, expressed the significance of the deal, stating: “This contract underlines the ongoing success of the EJ200 engine and our pivotal role in this world-class programme. The collaboration between ITP Aero and the other EUROJET partners continues to deliver unparalleled performance, reinforcing both Spain’s and Europe’s sovereignty in the defence sector. The programme also offers long-term, highly skilled jobs, fostering both technological innovation and economic growth.”
