KNDS Deutschland and the Italian defence company Leonardo have agreed to jointly develop a new mobile artillery system, formalised through a Letter of Intent signed in Amsterdam, the headquarters of KNDS. The agreement was signed by Florian Hohenwarter, incoming CEO of KNDS Deutschland, and Roberto Cingolani, CEO and General Manager of Leonardo.

The planned system will be based on the KNDS Artillery Gun Module combined with an enhanced version of Leonardo’s protected wheeled vehicle platform. The two companies also aim to strengthen industrial cooperation to improve supply chain resilience and reduce time to market, with the joint solution intended for the upcoming Italian Army procurement programme.

By integrating Leonardo’s electronics, C5I, UAV defence technologies and new wheeled vehicle platform with KNDS’s advanced artillery system, the partners expect a significant increase in combat power and effectiveness.

“This Letter of Intent is an important step toward improving the interoperability of European land forces and the cooperation of European industry,” said Florian Hohenwarter, while Roberto Cingolani stated, “This collaborative effort once again confirms our commitment to developing integrated capabilities able to meet evolving market requirements in the new operational scenarios”.
