Kongsberg secures contract for Joint Strike Missiles for Germany’s F-35 fleet

By Defence Industry Europe

Germany has formally signed a contract to acquire the Joint Strike Missile (JSM) from Norwegian defence company Kongsberg for its F-35 combat aircraft. This follows Kongsberg’s earlier announcement on 5 June 2025 that Germany had selected the missile, while contract negotiations were still underway.

The purchase is arranged as a government-to-government agreement between Norway and Germany, with the Norwegian Defence Material Agency (NDMA) acting as the official contract partner. Germany now becomes the fifth country to adopt the JSM, joining Norway, Japan, Australia and the United States.

“We are pleased to welcome Germany as the fifth country to select the JSM,” said Øyvind Kolset, Executive Vice President, Missiles and Space, at Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace. “The acquisition confirms the missile’s position as the natural partner to the F-35, and further strengthens the already strong bonds between Kongsberg and German industry on a range of projects, including missiles, submarines and weapon stations.”
