Kongsberg signs contract to integrate NSM missiles on the Royal Navy ships

Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace has signed a contract with the Norwegian Defence Material Agency (NDMA), valued at NOK 381 million for installation and integration of the Naval Strike Missile (NSM) on Royal Navy's Type 23 frigates and Type 45 destroyers.

In November 2022, UK and Norwegian authorities announced that the Royal Navy will receive the Naval Strike Missile (NSM), outfitted on Type 23 frigates and Type 45 destroyers, in a collaboration with the Norwegian government.

“The collaboration will result in more ships equipped with the highly sophisticated Naval Strike Missiles which in turn will contribute in enhancing the security in our common areas of interest. Replacing the Harpoon surface-to-surface weapon, due to go out of service in 2023, the world-class anti-ship missile will be ready for operations onboard the first Royal Navy vessel in a little over 12 months,” Kongsberg said in a statement published on November 2022.

Air and missile defence

Norway has successfully fired an Evolved Seasparrow Missile Block 2 from HNoMS Otto Sverdrup for the first time. The campaign tested the frigate’s updated Aegis combat-system software and its ability to communicate with the new missile.
