The JSM is a state-of-the-art, fifth-generation stealth missile designed for anti-surface warfare and land attack missions. Its integration within the internal bays of the F-35A ensures that the aircraft maintains its agility, range, and low-signature stealth capabilities while carrying out operations.
“The fifth order for the Joint Strike Missile underlines the important role of the JSM in Japan’s national defence strategy and is another example of the close and growing relationship between Norway, Japan and KONGSBERG,” stated Eirik Lie, President of Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace. His comments highlight the strategic collaboration between the two nations and the mutual benefits derived from the defence partnership.
Japan’s first order of the JSM came in 2018, marking the start of a series of procurements that have bolstered its military capabilities. This latest contract signifies not only Japan’s continued confidence in the missile system but also KONGSBERG’s expanding influence in the global defence market.
The JSM is already in use by several key allies, including Norway, Japan, Australia, and the US Air Force. This growing user community showcases the missile’s robust design and its importance in modern combat scenarios, reinforcing KONGSBERG’s reputation as a leader in cutting-edge defence technology.
