L3Harris and Shield AI collaborate on AI-driven electronic warfare solutions

By Defence Industry Europe

L3Harris Technologies and Shield AI have announced a collaboration to develop an advanced electronic warfare (EW) system using artificial intelligence. The partnership aims to integrate AI-enabled unmanned systems capable of sensing, adapting, and acting in real time across both physical and electromagnetic domains.

At the core of this initiative is L3Harris’ Distributed Spectrum Collaboration and Operations (DiSCO™), a software-defined electromagnetic battle management system. DiSCO™ will be paired with Shield AI’s Hivemind, an autonomy software designed to enhance decision-making and manoeuvrability in contested environments.

Ed Zoiss, President of Space and Airborne Systems at L3Harris, emphasised the importance of accelerating decision-making on complex, multi-domain battlefields. He stated that integrating DiSCO™ with Hivemind will allow warfighters to respond more effectively to rapidly evolving threats.

Christian Gutierrez, Vice President of Hivemind Solutions at Shield AI, highlighted the need for autonomous systems to counter adversaries’ sophisticated “kill webs”. He explained that combining Hivemind’s autonomous capabilities with L3Harris’ EW technology would enable military assets to operate dynamically and survive in restricted environments.

L3Harris and Shield AI plan to conduct further demonstrations and integrations to refine their AI-driven warfare capabilities. The goal is to develop scalable, multi-domain solutions that enhance the operational effectiveness of U.S. and allied forces.

L3Harris Technologies, known as a “Trusted Disruptor” in the defence sector, provides advanced technology solutions spanning space, air, land, sea, and cyber domains. Shield AI, founded in 2015, specialises in AI-powered autonomous systems designed to support military missions with high reliability.
