The facility at ProvPort expands L3Harris’ maritime production footprint as the company responds to demand for undersea training and readiness capabilities. Its location also gives L3Harris access to Rhode Island’s established maritime workforce and naval industrial base.

L3Harris said the site will support additional employment through local partnerships, port operations and specialised maritime services. The company is also partnering with Waterson Terminal Services to use local Longshoremen expertise in support of offshore wind cable management.

The Providence investment adds to L3Harris’ existing undersea operations in Rhode Island, where the company has maintained a presence since 1991. Its Ashaway facility supplies undersea sensor systems and military sonar for the U.S. Navy.
The new ProvPort operation is intended to increase L3Harris’ capacity to deliver undersea training systems for U.S. and allied naval forces. The investment also expands the company’s manufacturing presence within a Rhode Island defence sector already supporting U.S. Navy maritime and undersea programmes.
