The modified G550 aircraft will give the Italian Air Force long-range airborne jamming capabilities to disrupt enemy communications, radar, and navigation systems. These enhancements will significantly increase Italy’s ability to operate in complex electronic warfare environments.
L3Harris is collaborating with BAE Systems to deliver this capability as part of a broader modernisation of Italy’s defence assets. “We are expanding our support of Italy’s armed forces by equipping them with modern mission technology ready for managing a dynamic global landscape,” said Jason Lambert, President of Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance at L3Harris.
“Our team will provide Italy with solutions to augment its national security and increase its interoperability with the U.S. and strategic allies,” Lambert added. Once delivered, the new aircraft will integrate into the Italian Ministry of Defence’s fleet of special mission platforms.
The aircraft will complement Italy’s Joint Airborne Multi-Mission Multi-Sensor System (JAMMS), under which L3Harris is also modifying two G550 ISR aircraft. This effort forms part of a growing portfolio of multi-mission solutions based on commercial platforms for key U.S. and allied defence customers.
L3Harris has more than 70 years of experience integrating and missionising aircraft, having worked with over 10 original equipment manufacturers across more than 125 aircraft types. To date, the company has delivered 103 missionised business jet aircraft worldwide.
