IEE begins production of electronic warfare displays for L3Harris Viper Shield programme

By Defence Industry Europe

IEE, a US-based manufacturer of military display systems, has entered the production phase of a contract with L3Harris to deliver hundreds of 3ATI Electronic Warfare (EW) Multi-Function Displays (MFDs). This development follows the recent first-flight success of the Viper Shield digital electronic warfare system, integrated into the single-seat F-16 Block 70 aircraft.

The 3ATI display, developed by IEE, forms the cockpit display portion of the multi-Line Replaceable Unit (LRU) Electronic Warfare System (EWS). It plays a crucial role in the Viper Shield system by presenting full-colour threat data, diagnostics, and serving as the aircrew controller for the EWS.

Equipped with six system control buttons, the smart display allows pilots to initiate built-in tests, prioritise threats, switch modes, mute audio, and access selective menus for mission configuration. A two-position brightness control button also enables adjustment of the screen luminance from NVIS to daylight-readable levels.

“IEE has been working with L3Harris on this game changing technology for several years, and we continue to support the development and production of this 3ATI for the all-digital electronic warfare suite,” said Steve Motter, VP of Business Development. “We congratulate the Viper Shield team for a successful first flight and are happy to have entered the production phase of this exciting project.”
