Latvia exercises option for 42 additional RENK transmissions for infantry fighting vehicles

By Defence Industry Europe

RENK Group AG has announced a new order from Latvia for 42 additional HSWL-256B transmissions for the infantry fighting vehicle. The order follows closely on the heels of Latvia’s initial purchase, bringing the total number of transmissions ordered by the country to 84.

The expansion of the contract highlights Latvia’s strong confidence in RENK’s advanced and reliable transmission technology. “The HSWL-256B is already in service in British Armed Forces vehicles and has proven itself in the field of mission-critical drive technology,” RENK stated.

The HSWL-256B transmission, designed for vehicles in the 35 to 45 tonne weight class, features 800 kW (1100 hp) of power and is valued for its compact and robust construction. It plays a key role in transferring engine power to the wheels and enabling variable driving speeds.

Earlier this month, RENK welcomed both Latvia and another international customer as new buyers of the AJAX gearbox system. This development marks an expansion of the company’s global client base for this platform.

Production of the newly ordered transmissions will take place at RENK’s headquarters in Augsburg, Germany. Deliveries to Latvia are expected to commence in 2026.
