“The first of a total of 42 ‘Patria’ armoured vehicles manufactured in Latvia will be delivered to Ukraine shortly,” said Minister of Defence Andris Sprūds. “I am convinced that our ‘Patria’ armoured vehicles will help the Armed Forces of Ukraine in their fight against the aggressor.”
The decision to provide the vehicles is based on an official request from Ukraine, and the Ministry of Defence confirmed the order of the Patria 6×6 carriers on 10 February 2025. The Ministry also emphasised that the deliveries will not impact the needs or operational capabilities of the Latvian National Armed Forces.
Latvia’s procurement of the Patria 6×6 dates back to 30 August 2021, when the country signed a general agreement under an intergovernmental cooperation programme with Finland, Sweden, and Germany. The agreement included an order for more than 200 of these vehicles.
In addition, Latvia has actively contributed to the joint development of the Common Armoured Vehicle System (CAVS), which includes a unified command platform for the Patria 6×6. Design and development of this platform were completed in the summer of 2024, allowing Latvia to expand its order with 56 additional command vehicles.
