Leonardo signs new agreement to boost aerospace and defence collaboration with Saudi Arabia

Italian defence and aerospace giant Leonardo has signed a new Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, further solidifying their collaboration in the aerospace and defence sectors.

The announcement came during a series of bilateral meetings held between Italy and Saudi Arabia, involving the Ministry of Investment (MISA) and the General Authority for Military Industries (GAMI) of the Kingdom.

This MoU builds on a previous agreement made in early 2024, which explored diverse areas of partnership, including the localisation of electronic warfare systems, radars, and helicopter assembly.

It also focused on the development of the space industry, airframe maintenance, and cross-domain integration.

The new agreement aims to enhance collaboration in combat air systems and helicopter technologies, reflecting the successful outcomes of the 2024 initiatives.

Leonardo has a long history of engagement in Saudi Arabia, supplying advanced platforms, systems, and services.

These include passenger transport and rescue rotorcraft, maritime defence systems, electronic sensors, and cybersecurity solutions.

The company’s contribution to Saudi air defence has been particularly noteworthy, further underscoring its strategic importance in the region.

The latest MoU aligns with Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030, which seeks to diversify the economy, empower citizens, and foster innovation.

By collaborating with local partners, research institutions, and end-users, Leonardo aims to drive sustained development and production in the Kingdom.

This partnership not only strengthens Saudi Arabia’s industrial capabilities but also integrates the country more deeply into the global aerospace and defence value chain.

With its regional headquarters in Saudi Arabia, Leonardo is well-positioned to support the Kingdom’s ambitions for economic transformation and technological advancement.
