Lockheed Martin has partnered with Poland’s Wojskowe Zakłady Lotnicze Nr 1 S.A. (WZL-1) to support sustainment of the Polish Armed Forces’ AH-64E Apache helicopter fleet. The agreement follows Poland’s 2024 contract to acquire 96 AH-64E Apache Guardian attack helicopters.

The partnership includes the establishment of a Special Repair Activity focused on Apache sensor systems. A new facility in Łódź will handle maintenance and repair of Generation 4 Target Acquisition Designation Sight/Pilot Night Vision Sensor and LONGBOW Fire Control Radar systems.

Lockheed Martin said the facility will combine its sustainment expertise with WZL-1’s workforce and supply chain. The aim is to reduce repair turnaround times and improve aircraft availability for operational missions.

The company added that localizing sustainment capabilities in Poland is expected to increase mission-capable rates. Faster repairs and upgrades are intended to ensure a higher level of readiness for the Polish Armed Forces.

“Lockheed Martin is honored to deepen our long-standing partnership with Poland, delivering advanced sensor and sustainment capabilities that strengthen the nation’s security and its vital role within NATO,” said Stacy Kubicek, vice president and general manager of Lockheed Martin Sensors and Global Sustainment. “By working hand-in-hand with Poland’s defense industry, we’re supporting both Poland’s industrial base and fortifying the U.S. defense ecosystem.”

The initiative also includes the transfer of technology and training to Polish personnel. Lockheed Martin will provide technical support and resources to enable in-country maintenance of Apache sensor systems.

Jacek A. Goszczyński, CEO of WZL-1, said the project would enhance operational readiness. “The conclusion of our executive offset agreements, enabling the implementation and execution of the transaction for Poland’s acquisition of 96 AH-64E combat helicopters, will allow for the establishment of an Industrial Service Center for Apache Helicopters in Poland, based on the specialized entity WZL-1 S.A. in Łódź and Dęblin. These capabilities will ensure the maintenance of a high level of operational availability of Apache helicopters in the Polish Armed Forces, which will translate into the security of our state.”

Lockheed Martin said the partnership supports broader efforts to strengthen allied defense industrial capabilities. The company added that enhancing sustainment capacity contributes to interoperability and readiness across NATO forces.

WZL-1, part of the Polish Armaments Group, has provided aviation maintenance and modernization services for decades. Its capabilities include repair and overhaul of helicopters, aircraft engines, and both military and civilian aviation systems.
