Lockheed Martin expands industrial cooperation in Spain with PAC-3 MSE agreement

By Defence Industry Europe

Lockheed Martin, a leading American defence company, has strengthened its industrial cooperation in Spain by signing a significant agreement with the Spanish Ministry of Defence. The agreement, announced on 14 May, aims to enhance the engineering and production capabilities of the Spanish defence industry.

This new partnership allows the Spanish industry to participate in the production of components for the Patriot Advanced Capability-3 (PAC-3) Missile Segment Enhancement (MSE). The agreement represents a major step in Lockheed Martin’s ongoing efforts to reinforce defence supply chains through collaboration between the United States, Spain, and the broader European industry.

The announcement was made during the International Defence and Security Exhibition of Spain (FEINDEF), marking a pivotal moment for industrial cooperation in the defence sector. The framework for future collaboration includes projects with leading Spanish technology companies Sener and Oesía-Tecnobit.

Under the agreement, Sener will design and develop PAC-3 MSE actuators following Lockheed Martin’s specifications. Meanwhile, Oesía-Tecnobit will be responsible for manufacturing specialised PAC-3 MSE cables and harnesses. Lockheed Martin España has been working closely with both companies since 2023 to ensure the success of the collaboration.

Brian Kubik, Vice President of PAC-3 Programs at Lockheed Martin, commented on the agreement, saying, “Allied industrial partnerships like this collaboration with Sener and Oesía Tecnobit are a win for our countries’ shared security interests and highlight Lockheed Martin’s commitment to strengthening Spanish defence capabilities.” He further noted that the inclusion of these Spanish firms in the PAC-3 MSE supply chain marks a significant advancement in supporting the defence industrial base of the United States and its allies.

The collaboration is expected to enhance global supply chain resilience and create new business opportunities on both sides of the Atlantic. The PAC-3 MSE, known for its advanced missile interception capabilities through direct body-to-body contact, will improve the defensive capabilities of Spain’s Patriot battalions against incoming threats.

Lockheed Martin has a longstanding relationship with the Spanish industry, spanning more than 40 years. The company continues to expand its partnerships in Spain through strategic collaborations with innovative firms like Sener and Oesía-Tecnobit, reinforcing its commitment to strengthening the country’s defence infrastructure.

In 2024, the Spanish and U.S. governments formalised an agreement for Spain to acquire PAC-3 MSE interceptors and related support equipment, solidifying this latest industrial partnership. Over 3,125 Lockheed Martin employees support the PAC-3 programme globally, contributing to enhanced security and defence capabilities worldwide.
