The U.S. Department of Defense has announced a contract with Lockheed Martin for the production and delivery of the 18th batch of F-35 Lightning II multi-role fighter aircraft. The deal, valued at $11.7 billion, includes an initial funding release of $7.4 billion, with the work scheduled for completion by the end of June 2027.

Under the terms of the agreement, Lockheed Martin will deliver 145 F-35 aircraft in various configurations. For U.S. forces, the order includes 48 F-35A jets for the Air Force, 16 F-35B jets for the Marine Corps, and 19 F-35C jets—five for the Marine Corps and 14 for the Navy. Additionally, programme partners will receive 15 F-35A aircraft and one F-35B, although specific recipients were not disclosed.

Export customers, purchasing through the Foreign Military Sales (FMS) programme, are set to receive 39 F-35A jets and seven F-35B aircraft. These deliveries highlight the continued global demand for the advanced capabilities of the F-35 platform.

To date, Lockheed Martin has delivered over 1,080 F-35 aircraft worldwide, supported by three final assembly lines. The global fleet has accumulated more than 957,000 flight hours, with an increasing proportion of these conducted in operational and combat scenarios.
