The U.S. Marine Corps successfully tested the Link-16 communication system on the XQ-58A Valkyrie during its third test flight on 20 September 2024 at Eglin Air Force Base, Florida.

This marks a significant milestone as it is the first time the Department of Defense has used offboard expeditionary methods to control an air vehicle.

The Link-16 system enables the uncrewed Valkyrie to autonomously exchange tactical information, enhancing the Marine Corps’ ability to conduct integrated joint operations. The test demonstrated that the system met key requirements, strengthening the Marine Air-Ground Task Force’s mission capabilities.

This successful flight prepares the Valkyrie for participation in Emerald Flag 2024, a multi-service training exercise in October, where it will further demonstrate the effectiveness of manned and unmanned platform coordination.
