MBDA delivers first CAMM missiles and launchers to Poland under PILICA+ air defence programme

By Defence Industry Europe

MBDA has delivered its first CAMM missiles and PILICA+ series production launchers to Poland for integration into the PILICA+ short-range air defence system. The launchers mark the first major equipment delivery since the April 2023 contract signing and follow a joint system integration programme with Polish industry, particularly PIT-RADWAR.

These deliveries provide the MBDA components for Poland’s first PILICA+ firing unit, alongside Zenit C2 and Bystra Radar elements supplied by PIT-RADWAR. Once in-country, WZU will conduct camouflage painting, vehicle integration on Jelcz platforms, and install Polish Network radios before transfer to the Polish Armed Forces.

MBDA and its Polish industry partners will also begin intensive training with Polish Air Defence regiments in preparation for operational deployment. This phase represents a significant step forward in strengthening Poland’s short-range air defence capability.

“This milestone in our PILICA+ contract has been achieved thanks to intensive work by our teams and is vitally important in ensuring that Polish warfighters receive the equipment they need. It is the latest in a number of Polish-UK cooperation programmes providing significant air defence capabilities to Poland, with NAREW also progressing well. MBDA’s close partnership with PGZ is bringing our industries closer together, enabling sovereignty and supporting jobs, and is underpinned by the strong support of Polish and UK Governments for missile co-operation,” said Jim Price, Group Managing Director Poland for MBDA.

PILICA+ is one of NATO’s largest European short-range air defence programmes and integrates CAMM missiles into a PGZ-designed system, commanded by Polish control networks and guided by Polish radars. As the inner tier of Poland’s integrated air defence, it complements the WISLA upper-tier and NAREW mid-tier systems, both of which also involve MBDA and PGZ in an extensive programme of technology and knowledge transfer.
