This move is linked to a contract signed at the end of 2019 when the Bundeswehr commissioned MBDA Deutschland to conduct tests on the Enforcer under the name Leichtes Wirkmittel 1800+.
German Ministry of Defence had signed a framework agreement for the supply of up to 3087 missiles, with an initial order of 850 missiles at a cost of 76 million EUR, scheduled for delivery to users by the end of 2024. If a subsequent executive contract is concluded, the Bundeswehr is expected to receive an additional batch by 2026.
The Enforcer is a lightweight weapon system equipped with a guided missile and a multipurpose warhead. Ready for use, the system weighs just under 12 kg (including the targeting unit), with the 89 mm diameter missile accounting for less than 7 kg. The missile is guided by a dual-channel (television and thermal imaging) optoelectronic head.
The warhead is capable of engaging lightly armored and unarmored targets, including vehicles moving at speeds up to 50 km/h and slow-flying aircraft. The Enforcer is effective against targets ranging from 100 to 2000 meters. The guidance system allows for targeting behind obstacles.
