Estonian defence company Milrem Robotics has delivered its THeMIS Unmanned Ground Vehicle (UGV) to Sweden for trials and experimentation. The vehicle, equipped with Milrem’s Intelligent Functions Kit (MIFIK) for autonomous mobility, will be used by the Swedish Defence Materiel Administration (FMV), the Swedish Defence Research Agency, and the Swedish Armed Forces.

The contract, signed at Eurosatory 2024, marks Sweden’s first step towards integrating robotics into its defence operations. Brigadier General Jonas Lotsne of FMV and Sverker Svärdby, managing director of Milrem Robotics Sweden, signed the agreement in the presence of Major General Jonny Lindfors, Chief of the Swedish Army.

The THeMIS UGV, known for its versatility, will initially be used for cargo transport but can be adapted for other roles such as casualty evacuation, reconnaissance, and combat. Milrem Robotics will provide training for Swedish personnel and ongoing support to ensure the system remains cutting-edge.
